Richard Kaskow

Towering above the crowd, both literally and figuratively, I stand as a testament to the power of local passion and relentless drive. Born and raised in Torbay, with roots as deep as the town's history, I endeavour to leave an indelible mark not just on my hometown, but on communities across the UK.

Imagine me as a young, lanky lad striding through the corridors of Torquay Boys' Grammar School, my mind already buzzing with visions of urban renewal and architectural marvels. Fast forward to Manchester University, where my talents truly crystallized. There, surrounded by the city's rich tapestry of industrial heritage and modern ambition, I honed my skills under the tutelage of architectural giants Buttress and Brunskill.

But I wasn't content with just designing buildings – I wanted to reshape entire communities. Picture me in Warminster, sleeves rolled up, rallying locals and officials alike. Under my guidance, a once-sleepy town blossomed, sprouting a thriving business park, a reinvigorated rugby club, and a cutting-edge skate park that became the envy of the region.

My political acumen proved just as sharp as my drafting pencil. As a district councillor for West Wiltshire, I championed environmental causes and breathed new life into neglected leisure facilities. Even at the parish level in Henstridge, my influence was felt, proving that no community was too small for my big ideas.

But the siren call of my beloved Devon coast couldn't be ignored forever. Returning to Paignton, I didn't just buy a home – I bought a redundant church and transformed it into a beacon of community spirit. As chair of the Paignton Town Community Partnership, I orchestrated my magnum opus: the Geo Playpark. With a cool £450,000 from the Big Lottery, I helped to create a wonderland that has delighted thousands of children, becoming the crown jewel of free attractions in the bay.

Yet, for all my successes, I remain a fighter at heart. My visions for a Heritage Centre, a revitalized youth center, and the restoration of Victoria Park have met resistance from Torbay Council. But if you think that's slowed me down, you don't know me.

At 17, I was already playing for Torquay Rugby's First 15s, before joining the prestigious ranks of Sale and Cheshire. There, I didn't just play alongside England internationals and Lions – I held my own among legends like Smith and Cotton.

Now, later in life, when most men might be content to rest on their laurels, my competitive spirit burns as bright as ever. You'll find me on the pickleball court at Torquay tennis club, moving with the energy and determination of a man half my age.

I have an unquenchable passion for my community and a lifetime of experience in shaping urban landscapes, I stand ready to lead Paignton into a new golden age. In my vision, the future of this seaside gem isn't determined by bureaucrats in distant offices, but by the very people who call it home.
