After the Jade Emperor traps four dragons under mountains, some dragons fear for their future. One such dragon, Longpei, takes flight, heading west. On her tail is a not particularly friendly taowu. To speed her journey she develops wings. Her energy forces apart land to form the English Channel. The mouth that is Tor Bay opens up. Longpei heads for it. To this day, she resides under Dartmoor, where the granite continues to protect her from the taowu.
